David K.P. Li is Chairman and Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia which was established in Hong Kong in 1918.
Dr. Li is a Member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
He is a Member of the Banking Advisory Committee, Hong Kong Association of Banks (Executive Committee), and Chairman of the Chinese Banks' Association.
Dr. Li was a Member of The Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a Hong Kong Affairs Adviser to The People's Republic of China, and Vice Chairman of the Basic Law Drafting Committee which laid the groundwork for the laws of Hong Kong after 30th June 1997 when sovereignty over Hong Kong reverted from Britain to China.
Dr. Li serves on the international advisory boards of the Capital Magazine, Carlos P. Romulo Foundation for Peace and Development International Board of Advisers, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York International Advisory Committee, Hospital for Special Surgery International Advisory Council, Judge Institute of Management Studies, University of Cambridge, Redgate Media Inc., and Scripps International Network.

Dr. Li attended the University of Cambridge, and has an MA in Economics and Law and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Law conferred by the University in June 1993. The University of Warwick conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws on Dr. Li in July 1994. In March 1996, the University of Hong Kong conferred on Dr. Li the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws. In November 1996, the Lingnan College conferred on Dr. Li the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Sciences. In May 2002, Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, conferred on Dr. Li the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. In July 2007, Napier University conferred on Dr. Li the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration. In November 2007, Imperial College London conferred on Dr. Li the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science.
He is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Bankers, of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants.
Dr. Li and his wife, Penny, have two sons, Adrian and Brian.
