The ABA conducts training and professional development programs for its members as part of its regular activity.. Through these training programs, the ABA aims to heighten the level of awareness among its members about the importance of training and continuing education in making them ready and equipped to cope with the many changes in the market. In particular, it strives to accelerate and conduct more training courses for members in light of the new issues emerging in the banking sector to upgrade the general awareness of bank managers on these issues.

Short-term Visiting Programs

ABA continues to organize short-term visiting programs under which member bank executives from developing or emerging economies will visit member banks in more advanced countries for the purpose of studying and undergoing training on specific aspects of the operations and facilities of the more advanced host banks. The idea is to give the visitors the opportunity to (i) enhance and upgrade their technical skills and knowledge in specific areas such as international banking, treasury activities, investment, and foreign exchange in the distinct and peculiar social, economic and business environment of the host country, and (ii) gain first-hand knowledge of the operations, systems and work procedures of the host bank’s various line departments.

IDC Financial Insights
March 2-3, 2017
Singapore

Invited by IDC Financial Insights, a regional research and advisory firm, the ABA agreed to support the “Asian Financial Services Congress 2017” to be held on March 2 – 3, 2017 in Singapore.

Targeting senior executives from the banking, insurance and capital market sectors, the two-day event aims to examine the following issues:

  • Thinking beyond transactions: Banks cannot only facilitate the movement of funds; it falls to them to create ‘value’ in the value chain of customer-centric services;
  • Meaningful customer engagements: Being an app on your clients’ phones will not win over the new generation of empowered users; banks need to engage client on their own terms, accommodating on-demand, peer-sharing, and mobile-first habits;
  • Regulators in a new light: Like banks, policy-makers too have new roles, here to promote realistic, fair, and pro-consumer levels of competition in an increasingly barrier-less market; opportunistic banks will find themselves as executors of such mandates;
  • The new way of competing: Banks coming together with former competitors, startups, and third-parties to unlock business synergies by winning as a team;
  • The new way of computing: Fresh perspectives in technology planning, budgeting and provisioning ensure digital technologies are both available when needed and unexacting when not.
