Invitation to suggest Speakers & Panelists for 37th ABA Conference

We wish to invite our Board Members and members to suggest possible session speakers, panelists and moderators for the 37th ABA General Meeting and Conference scheduled to take place on November 12-13, 2020 at Jetwing Blue Hotel in Negombo, Sri Lanka.

To ensure a productive and meaningful discussion of the issues surrounding the Conference theme of “Asian Banks: Achieving Sustainable Growth in the Age of Disruption,” we would appreciate it very much if you could suggest names of experts from the banking sector, government regulatory bodies, multilateral and regional organizations, management consulting firms, Fintech companies, and the academe whom we can invite to share their views on the following topics

 

Session 1: Addressing Emerging Challenges in a Changing Global Market Environment

The session will feature speakers who will share their views on the new and emerging challenges in the global environment such as the ongoing US-China trade war, US sanctions on certain economies, the protracted Hong Kong protest movement, security-related challenges, natural disasters, and corona virus pandemic; and how to mitigate their negative impact on the banking industry

 

Session 2: The Role of Technology in Sustainable Growth

Discussions will focus on opportunities presented by new and emerging technologies (block chain, AI and machine learning, digital platforms, 3D printing, mobile payments, etc.) to make banking more innovative, more efficient, more inclusive, less costly, more supportive of small business, and more responsive to the changing needs of customers particularly those from the new generation.

 

Session 3: Building a Sustainable Banking and Business Model

Speakers will be invited to share their insights and perspectives model that takes into account effective risk management, good governance, product and customer diversity, business ethics, fair employment policies, appropriate management methods, corporate social responsibility, the conservation of the environment, and other sustainable operating practices aimed at increasing the resilience of their business models.

 

Session 4: CEO Roundtable – Navigating the New World Order: Implications for Banks and Regulators

This session will feature CEOs who will exchange their views on the current trends and developments in banking and their implications on Central Bank policies and regulations, the need for digital transformation of banks to achieve sustainable banking, open banking, training and management of the workforce for the future, the role of banks in managing and mitigating the impact of climate change and other natural disasters on their operations as well as on their customers.

In addition, may we also request you to recommend speakers and panelists (and possible topics) for the three other special sessions of the Conference, namely:

 

Discover ABA SessionBrief country presentations will be made by selected ABA member banks and Knowledge Partners on the economy and the financial markets in their respective countries, or on special programs, projects, products or services that have benefited their customer base or the community they serve and may be adapted by member banks from other countries.

 

Host Bank Session Hatton National Bank  will organize a session on the topic: Promoting Sustainable Financing. Speakers from member banks and pertinent organizations will be invited to share their experience and best practices in setting and implementing sustainable financing goals, initiatives, and activities to achieve resilient portfolios aligned with a sustainable future.

 

Special Presentation Session Speakers will be invited to make presentations on topics which are of current interest to ABA members and the region’s banking industry.
